Team India has reached Guwahati in preparation for the second ODI against West Indies, set for September 30 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium. The team travelled from Thiruvananthapuram, where India had secured an emphatic eight-wicket win in the first match of the series on September 27.
The last time the Indian senior men’s cricket team played an international match in Guwahati, the new Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport had not yet opened. Opened on February 22, 2026, the airport is widely considered one of the best in eastern India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India posted details of the squad’s arrival on its official X account later on Monday, September 28. The BCCI released photos of the full squad departing the Guwahati airport before the second ODI, scheduled for Wednesday.
It’s no surprise that excitement to see two of India’s biggest cricketing stars is high in this northeastern state. The most recent occasion on which Kohli and Rohit faced off in Guwahati was the second ODI against Sri Lanka, a match India won by four wickets.
At the time, Rohit, who was captain, opened the innings and scored 17 before being dismissed by Chamika Karunaratne, while Kohli was sent back for just four, bowled by Lahiru Kumara. The two stalwarts also delivered a memorable partnership in Guwahati during the first ODI against the West Indies on October 1, 2018 Kohli scored 140 off 107 balls while Rohit remained not out on 152 off 117, helping India chase down a challenging target with eight wickets still in hand.
If India wins on September 30, they will clinch the ODI series 2-0 before the third and final match, set for October 3 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The West Indies’ tour of India, scheduled from September 27 to October 17, 2026, will also feature five T20 Internationals following the completion of the ODI series.
Much of the focus on the squad’s arrival is centred on Virat Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 139 in the first ODI at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Kohli and India captain Shubman Gill kept West Indies’ bowlers under constant pressure as India comfortably chased down the target of 296.
