BCCI Selection Shake-Up! Ramesh Powar Set to Replace Ajit Agarkar, Report Claims

According to a report published on Saturday by Cricbuzz, former India spinner Ramesh Powar is the front-runner to join the BCCI’s senior men’s selection committee. Powar, the two-time head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team, has applied for the position and is now the front-runner to join the panel, which will probably be led by former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha.

According to reports, Pragyan Ojha, the interim chairman, is probably going to be appointed as the selection panel’s permanent leader. The BCCI solicited applications to fill a position on its senior men’s selection committee after Ajit Agarkar’s term as top selector ended on October 4. Four or five candidates, including former India opener Wasim Jaffer and former Baroda players Connor Williams and Jacob Martin, were interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on October 15.

Sources reveal Powar, the former head coach of India’s women’s cricket team, has been selected by the CAC. Powar has played in 31 ODIs and two Test matches for India. Powar had previously been interviewed for the role of chief of the BCCI’s junior selection committee and was thought to be the front-runner. He is currently anticipated to become a member of the senior selection panel, nevertheless.

The BCCI intends to include a representative from its Centre of Excellence (CoE) in future selection committee meetings. CoE head VVS Laxman, who joined the selectors’ online conference on Friday to choose the teams for India’s ODI and Test series in New Zealand, is most likely the representative. In the future, Laxman is anticipated to participate in selection meetings as well, assisting selectors in better understanding the availability and injury status of players.

His continued participation in these conversations is meant to give the selectors more precise, current information regarding the players’ overall availability, injury status, and level of fitness. For the junior selection panel, Powar was also interviewed. Before being co-opted into the senior panel, he was first considered for the position of chairman. Dodda Ganesh may now be appointed chairman of the junior selection committee.
