Goa to Host IPL 2027 Auction in December, BCCI Confirms

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announced that India will host the IPL 2027 player auction in Goa in December 2026. The confirmation concludes a streak of three consecutive overseas editions and signals the event’s return to Indian soil. The auction has taken place in Dubai, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi during the last three editions. The 2025 mega auction took place in Jeddah, with Dubai hosting the 2024 event and Abu Dhabi hosting the 2026 one.

Saikia’s statement confirmed Goa as the host city and December 2026 as the month for the IPL 2027 player auction. Reports released between September 19 and 20 had suggested the second week of December as a likely timeframe, but the BCCI has not yet officially confirmed a specific date; additional scheduling details are anticipated to be shared soon. The auction will act as the player selection event for IPL 2027, the next instalment of the tournament, and its return to India concludes a stretch during which it was held in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi over three straight years.

Saikia said, “This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi last year, we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December.”

The BCCI is also requesting new input from IPL franchises regarding the Impact Player rule, which was addressed at a recent Governing Council meeting. The strategic substitution rule permits teams to substitute a player at any point during a match and is set to stay in effect until 2027. Nevertheless, the rule has drawn criticism from several high-profile players, such as India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill, former captain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel. A primary concern voiced by players is that the rule diminishes the value of true all-rounders.
