Cameron Green Injury Blow: Australia Star Set to Miss First South Africa Test

Cameron Green, a fast-bowling all-rounder for Australia, is unlikely to participate in the opening Test match against South Africa, which begins on October 9 at Kingsmead. It does not seem like his abdominal discomfort from last month’s third ODI against the same opponents has fully recovered. The two-day warm-up against the Cricket South Africa Invitation XI, which ended in a tie on Sunday, did not feature Green. He was also not observed practising, which is what athletes often do before an international match. His unavailability for the first Test has been the subject of numerous rumours ever since.

Green, however, was only observed performing some minor physical conditioning away from the main training group and did not participate in Australia’s two-day warm-up match in Potchefstroom. Australia may be considering a return for him in the second or third Test, even if he has not been officially ruled out of the Kingsmead Test. Over the last three series, the all-rounder has also been dealing with a shoulder problem that has interfered with his bowling. As the Australian selectors attempt to resolve their batting combination against South Africa’s potent pace attack, his most recent stomach issue may now affect his batting, bowling, and fielding.

Green’s injury has had two effects. Beau Webster, the team’s other all-rounder, will play first. Because he can bowl both off-spin and at a medium tempo, Webster is a special player. Although Green is not officially out yet, there is a good possibility he will not participate. There is compelling proof. Green’s absence at Kingsmead against one of the best Test sides in the world can hardly be good news for the Australians, as he recently scored a century and fifty against Bangladesh in a two-Test rubber at home.

Mitchell Johnson, a former fast bowler for Australia, also questioned Maddinson’s inclusion. Johnson described the choice as “tough to justify” in a piece for The West Australian.

He wrote, “If Cam Green is unavailable, Matthew Renshaw or Cooper Connolly should remain ahead of Maddinson. They were included in the original squad and should have a clearer position in the selection order.”
