Bob Carter has been appointed as the new Batting Consultant for Cricket West Indies (CWI) on a one-year contract, effective September 1, 2026. Carter will cover age-group cricket, the senior men’s and women’s teams, and all three program categories.
Carter started managing the men’s, women’s, and age-group teams’ programs on September 1, 2026. According to the CWI website, his appointment aligns with the West Indies’ preparations for the Men’s ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which is set for February to March 2027, followed by World Cup preparations.
Carter has been an exceptional coach for more than thirty years. He was a member of the New Zealand Cricket high-performance organisation for 21 years. From 2012 till August 2025, he held the position of High-Performance Coach. He was the head coach of the New Zealand Women’s team from 2019 to 2022. Carter was the Director of Cricket at the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club in England prior to moving to New Zealand.
Carter’s duties will be concentrated in two areas: improving the ability of regional and high-performance coaches to create and execute customised batting programs, and providing top and up-and-coming hitters with specialised technical support.
In addition to working with CWI’s High-Performance team to create batting modules that are incorporated into the regional coaching route for the benefit of coaches at all levels, he will work closely with coaches to enhance support for elite players returning to home territory.
CWI states Bob Carter, saying, “West Indies cricket has a proud tradition of producing outstanding batsmen, and my job is to help build the base to produce future generations of world-class players. My focus has always been on supporting players and coaches to reach their full potential, and I am looking forward to working alongside the regional and high-performance coaches to help achieve that.”
His primary responsibility at CWI is to provide both established and emerging players with specialised batting advice. He also works to improve the batting program design abilities of coaches who are already integrated into regional and high-performance setups. Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket, emphasised the amount of cricket that lies ahead, pointing out that during the next 24 to 30 months, West Indies teams will participate in at least six international competitions.
