England Star Freya Kemp Set to Return to Perth Scorchers for WBBL 2026

Perth Scorchers have secured the return of English international Freya Kemp, who made a strong impression during her debut season with the team. Last season, Kemp added a fresh dimension to the side’s lower order by leveraging her powerful batting in a finisher’s role. The left-handed batsman scored 193 runs at a strike rate of 147.32 and contributed significantly in the field with five catches.

Kemp’s ability to quickly boost scoring in the lower order was a key highlight of her stint with the Scorchers. Her return brings additional depth to a squad that already includes seasoned players like Beth Mooney and Alana King. The Scorchers won their first WBBL title in the 2021-22 season and are looking to build on that success with a strong squad for the upcoming campaign.

Kemp was also part of England’s T20 World Cup squad earlier this year, scoring 44 not out off just 28 balls against the champion Australians. Perth Scorchers General Manager Kade Harvey praised the Englishwoman’s return as a significant acquisition.

In an official statement, Kemp said, “I loved my time with the Scorchers last season, and I’m really excited to be coming back for another year. The group was incredibly welcoming from day one, and it was a fantastic environment to be part of, both on and off the field. I’m looking forward to getting back to Perth, working hard with the team and hopefully helping contribute to a successful season.”

At just 17 years and 95 days old, Kemp made her England T20 debut against South Africa, becoming one of the youngest players to have represented England in that format. She made her ODI debut a few months later, solidifying her reputation as a legitimate international prospect.

She also played for Southern Brave alongside Sophie Devine in the 2025 Women’s Hundred, bringing high-profile franchise experience to her resume before returning to Perth. In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Kemp made a significant impact with the bat for England, scoring 44 not out off just 28 balls in one of her innings. Earlier in the English domestic season, she scored 149 runs in three innings during the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup, showing steady batting performance across different formats.
