Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s career in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) got off to a fantastic start. On his debut, he claimed three wickets for just 13 runs. The Guyana Amazon Warriors, his squad, defeated Saint Lucia Kings by 4 wickets as well. The second player from Bangladesh to play for Guyana is Miraz. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, a pacer from Bangladesh, had previously represented the team in the Global Super League (GSL). It was Miraz’s turn to don the Guyana shirt in the CPL this time.
At Providence Stadium on Thursday, the Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the St Lucia Kings by a margin of four wickets. Imran Tahir took five wickets as St Lucia was limited to 119 and dismissed in 18.5 overs. During the Kings’ innings, Miraz bowled four overs and was crucial to the Warriors’ bowling attack.
John Campbell was dismissed during Miraz’s period in the seventh over after he was caught at long-off while trying to knock a six. In his first CPL outing, he also showed control and accuracy by removing Charith Asalanka with the last ball of his third over and trapping Kemol Savoury lbw.
After the match Tahir was all praise for Miraz. He said, “We had Nabi. His standards were really really high. He’s been our best bowler, but look, he [Miraz] came and I think he felt, to be honest with you, nothing, and then he bowled really really well. I think just exactly how we were thinking. So, yeah, look, really nice to have him. He’s a world-class bowler, you know, been performing all over the world internationally. So, yeah, I think I’m very excited, obviously, to bowl with him and all the other guys around him..”
