On October 22, 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India declared that Renuka Singh Thakur would not play in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. Jintimani Kalita was selected by the Women’s Selection Committee to take her place in the team. The three ODIs are set to take place in Vadodara on October 23, October 25, and October 28, 2026. India’s 2025–29 Women’s Championship cycle also begins with this series.
Jintimani Kalita has been selected by the Women’s Selection Committee to take her seat. Kalita has joined the team in Baroda ahead of the ODI series that begins on October 23. Kalita previously played in the T20 International (T20I) series against Zimbabwe in Raipur.
A BCCI statement stated, “Fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has been ruled out of the upcoming Muthoot FinCorp three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. She is still building up the bowling volume required for the 50-over format at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The Women’s Selection Committee has named Jintimani Kalita as a replacement. Jintimani, who was part of the just-concluded T20I series in Raipur, has travelled with the team to Baroda, where the ODI series will be played from tomorrow.”
In March 2026, Renuka last played for India in an ODI against Australia at Hobart. India lost all three games in that series in Australia, ending in a 0-3 loss. The selectors have concluded that Renuka is not yet prepared for the demands of 50-over cricket, despite her efforts to improve her bowling and fitness at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Renuka played a crucial role in India’s victory in the ODI World Cup at home in November 2025; therefore, her ongoing absence represents a significant weakness in the pace attack.
