It would be an understatement to suggest that every aspiring batter in India looks up to the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar. This also applies to Karan Sharma. Since he was a little boy, the right-handed batsman, who most recently led the Kashi Rudras in the fourth edition of the UP T20 League, has admired Tendulkar. It is therefore not surprising that the 27-year-old is gradually rising through the ranks and establishing himself.
During his time with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, Sharma had a brief brush with Tendulkar. Beyond that first handshake, the young hitter has stated that he wants to have more in-depth discussions about cricket and life with his idol.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Sharma said, “My cricket idol has always been Sachin sir. During the IPL, I met him. There was just a handshake with him. I wasn’t able to chat with him. I want to discuss cricket with him. I want to learn how he went about his business in sport and life. I want to learn from him. My father is a very big cricket fan. He gave me a bat early on in childhood, and since then, I have been a lover of the game. I then started watching Sachin sir bat, and I used to switch off the TV when he got out. By watching him, I developed a passion for the game. But my love for cricket initially was through my father.”
Sharma’s early attitude toward the game was influenced by Tendulkar. Tendulkar’s approach and commitment served as a model for his own career, and he was encouraged to build his own enthusiasm for cricket by watching the renowned batter play. In the fourth edition of the UP T20 League, Sharma led the batting rankings with 361 runs, demonstrating his dedication to the game.
Despite a difficult mid-season period, Sharma and Kashi Rudras showed tenacity in their attempts to make a comeback. Midway through the competition, the squad dropped a number of games, but they recovered with courage and tenacity.
