‘Legend, Unique, Phenomenal’ – Chris Gayle’s Big Praise for Virat Kohli

Former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle praised Virat Kohli as a “phenomenal” player and expressed his hope that he continues to play international cricket for as long as possible. Gayle, who shared a dressing room with Kohli when they played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), spoke to ANI during a World Legends Cup (WCL) match in which he was representing the West Indies champions.

When discussing Kohli’s influence on international cricket, Gayle emphasised the Indian batter’s reliability and supremacy in all formats, especially in the IPL, where both players have participated. The legend from the West Indies based his opinions regarding Kohli’s professionalism and status among the top players in the sport on his personal experience playing alongside the Indian.

Gayle said, “The man is a legend, the man is unique, he is phenomenal. I cannot find any other word to actually uplift Virat because, as I said, everybody is calling him the King Kohli, he has done so much for the game of cricket as well, and hopefully he can carry on as long as possible, especially in the international scene. He has been dominant in the IPL as well. So, like I said, great guy, great person.”

With two hundreds, three fifties, and a top score of 139*, Kohli has amassed 552 runs in nine innings at an average of 69.00 and a strike rate of 117.94 in nine ODIs this year. He scored 168 runs in three innings during the most recent ODIs this month against the West Indies, including an incredible 88-ball 139* in the first ODI while pursuing about 290 runs. Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer in ODIs of all time, with 15,109 runs at an average of 58.78, with 55 hundreds and 79 fifties and a maximum score of 183.

With 15,109 runs at an average of 58.78, 55 hundreds, 79 fifties, and a maximum score of 183, Kohli is the second-highest run scorer in ODI history. With an eye toward the 2027 ODI World Cup, the run-chaser will carry on with his career as an ODI-only player. He will play in three ODIs at home against Sri Lanka starting on December 13 and in a five-match ODI series away from home against New Zealand starting on November 4.
