Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his fiancée Akriti Agarwal have called off their engagement just a few months after going public with the news. Agarwal confirmed the separation in an Instagram statement on Thursday. Agarwal, who is both a social media influencer and an actress, stated that the decision was mutual and followed the couple’s realisation that their future aspirations and life situations were diverging. She also urged people to respect their privacy and avoid speculating about the reasons for their decision.
Taking it to her official social media handle, she said, “With a heavy heart, I would like to share that my fiance and I have decided to part ways due to different goals and circumstances for our future. As much as we love and care for each other, we’ve come to accept that our paths are not meant to be together. With our responsibilities and the circumstances we are currently facing, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways.”
It further said, “I genuinely wish nothing but the best, peace, and happiness for both of us as we move forward. I kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this difficult time and refrain from speculating or making assumptions about the reasons behind our decision. Thank you for understanding and respecting our space.”
Shaw and Agarwal revealed their engagement on March 8, posting a series of romantic photos from the event. In one photo, Shaw was seen kneeling on one knee to propose to Agarwal, while another captured the couple showing off their engagement rings. The engagement occurred at a critical juncture in Shaw’s career as he aimed to restore his reputation in both domestic and franchise cricket.
The right-handed batsman, who debuted for India in 2018 with a century in his first Test against the West Indies, was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 75 lakh in the accelerated phase of the IPL 2026 auction. Shaw did not participate in any match during the 2026 IPL season.
