Watch - Rohit Sharma’s Stunning Effort Saves Certain Boundary, Leaves Shubman Gill Impressed

Rohit Sharma has drawn attention for his sharp performance on the field during the ongoing second ODI between India and the West Indies in Guwahati. Amir Jangoo attempted to score additional runs off Naman Dhir’s delivery, but his poorly timed shot nearly resulted in a catch.

The incident happened on the first ball of the 36th over, delivered by Naman Dhir. West Indies batsman Amir Jangoo stepped out of his crease and hit a powerful shot toward the mid-wicket fence, but badly misjudged it. The ball soared high and landed just shy of the rope, but Rohit raced across to intercept it. Jangoo, not expecting Rohit to arrive in time, accepted a single off the delivery. The BCCI posted a clip of the moment on X, showing the entire effort.

The ball soared high into the air, but no fielder was positioned precisely beneath it at deep mid-wicket. Rohit sprinted swiftly to his right and managed to reach the ball just in time. He then dived and flicked the ball into the field, preventing it from going for four.

In the series opener, Rohit scored 32 off 35 balls, smashing three sixes and two fours to lay a strong foundation for India. His last significant ODI score before this series was 138 against England at Lord’s in the third ODI on July 19, 2026. Going into this match, he required over 73 runs to reach 12,000 ODI runs, a milestone that would position him as the second-fastest batter to achieve it, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record, after Virat Kohli.

Earlier, Shubman Gill emphasised the significance of solid fielding in the middle overs during ODI cricket. He also acknowledged that India might have performed better on the field in the first ODI. The Indian captain now anticipates that the team will enhance its fielding and display greater energy in the second ODI. In this context, Shai Hope surpasses MS Dhoni and Brian Lara by scoring his 20th ODI century.
