In the Duleep Trophy 2026 quarterfinal between East Zone and North East Zone on August 23, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner, bowled brilliantly, dismissing two batters in a single over. East Zone dominated the game from the start at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

On Day 3 of East Zone’s quarterfinal match versus North East Zone at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, Sooryavanshi created a surprise with the ball, despite the fact that luck did not favour him with the bat during his Duleep Trophy debut on Saturday. As North East Zone struggled to escape an innings defeat, the teenager claimed two wickets in a single over during their second innings.

Known for his thunderous batting, Sooryavanshi finished his session by dismissing Imliwati Lemtur and Kishan Lyngdoh in the same over. Lemtur edged a front-footed defence through to Ishan Kishan behind the stumps after Lyngdoh was caught at mid-wicket while trying to heave through the on side. After bowling three overs, he gave up 11 runs while taking two wickets.

By scoring 467 in their opening innings, the East Zone had already solidified dominance. In contrast, the North East Zone was fired for 111 in response. had reached 79 for seven in their second innings at the time of writing, putting them in a risky situation as the East Zone was vying for a decisive victory.

Sooryavanshi finished the game with amazing statistics of 2/11, having bowled just three overs overall, all in the second innings. Sooryavanshi had bowled in a first-class match before. He has previously bowled in five innings and claimed two wickets at an average of 28.50 in his eight format appearances. But his most recent tenure revealed a different aspect of his game.
