Big Squad Twist Ahead of India Test as Sri Lanka Call Up Two Players

For Sri Lanka’s second Test match against India, which will begin on August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, all-rounder Sahan Arachchige and batsman Kamil Mishara have been added. The hosts are dealing with a growing number of injuries before the game, thus these two are the most recent arrivals. According to a report from an international cricket news source, Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal have been replaced by the batting duo.

After India won the Galle Test by 165 runs to take the series lead, Sri Lanka may not have Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, or Pathum Nissanka for the Colombo match. Mendis had already been replaced by Niroshan Dickwella, and Chandimal was replaced by Pasindu Sooriyabandara in the Galle Test due to a concussion. Mishara and Arachchige’s call-ups give a squad that is already thin due to unavailability more depth.

However, because players who are substituted due to concussions are prohibited from playing for seven days under International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, Chandimal is instantly disqualified from the upcoming match.

Kamil Mishara has never been selected for a Test match despite playing for Sri Lanka in ODIs and T20Is. He showed the form that led to his selection on the day of his Test squad call-up by smashing 145 off 72 balls in the Major Clubs T20 event. During his first season in the Lanka Premier League 2026, he also left an impression.

Sahan Arachchige lacks a Test cap despite having recent high-level experience. With an innings of 127, he was the team’s top run scorer in the second unofficial Test between Sri Lanka A and India A. Despite India A’s ten-wicket victory, Arachchige’s performance was impressive and appears to have been a major factor in his promotion to the senior squad.

Sri Lanka Squad for India Test: Asitha Fernando, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Nishan Madushka Fernando, Lahiru Udara, Sonal Dinusha, Keshara Nuwantha, Sahan Arachchige, Dhananjaya de Silva (C), Kamindu Mendis (VC), Niroshan Dickwella, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Ramesh Mendis, Prabath Jayasuriya, and Kamil Mishara
