Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both ACC President and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, will not be attending Finals Day at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. On Friday, the Asian Cricket Council officially announced that Naqvi will not be travelling to the medal matches at Korogi Park in Nisshin City because of prior obligations.
In recent ACC tournaments, Indian teams have declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi following their victory in the final. The Women’s Asia Cup ended in September, marking the most recent occasion on which the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team skipped the presentation.
Naqvi serves simultaneously as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and as the country’s Interior Minister, a dual appointment that has led to scheduling clashes preventing his attendance at the 2026 Asian Games medal ceremony. The ACC issued a statement explaining his absence on the final day of the tournament.
In a statement by ACC, Cricbuzz revealed, “ACC president Mr Mohsin Naqvi will miss Finals Day at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. But he sends his very best wishes to all four teams ahead of the Gold and Bronze Medal matches.”
A source at the time had told The Indian Express that the BCCI had informed ACC officials that if Naqvi attended the presentation and India won the final, the team would not accept the trophy from him. Before that, in September 2025, the Indian men’s team too refused to receive the trophy at the same venue after beating arch-rival Pakistan, from Naqvi, leading to a presentation ceremony that stretched for more than an hour after the match had ended.
