IND vs WI: 3 Reasons why India could face a tough challenge in the T20I series

India will be hosting the West Indies for three ODIs and five T20Is in September-October 2026. The West Indies had previously visited India for two Tests this year and now will play a white-ball series.

The first T20I will be played in Lucknow on October 6; the second T20I will be played on October 9 in Ranchi, and the third T20I will be played on October 11 in Indore. The last two T20Is will be played on October 14 and October 17 in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, respectively.

Today we will check out the 3 reasons why the Indian team might face a tough challenge in the upcoming West Indies T20I series.

Here are the 3 reasons why India could face a tough challenge in the IND vs. WI T20I series:

3. Fielding mistakes

Indian fielding lapses, especially catching, have been an issue over the past 2-3 years. Apart from a handful of players, India’s catching has been atrocious in T20Is, often changing the course of matches. India will need to improve their catching in the outfield and overall fielding performances, as the West Indies batters are a different breed in T20Is.

2. Too many left-handers in the batting unit

The Indian batting lineup is filled with left-handers from top to bottom. From Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma to Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, and Tilak Varma, India has a southpaw problem. This gives the opposition a good chance to prepare well in advance. Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson break the monotony of lefties in the Indian XI, but they are few and far between. India has to find the right balance in its XI of right-handers and left-handers to get the best out of everyone.

1. Weak bowling unit minus Jasprit Bumrah

The Indian bowling unit has been repeatedly exposed in T20Is whenever the trump card Jasprit Bumrah is rested. India doesn’t have a very good X-factor pace bowler to take over once Bumrah is rested. The likes of Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, and others are good but seem to have weaknesses that can be exploited easily by the opponents.
