Pakistan’s Usman Tariq Creates CPL History With Record-Breaking Feat

Usman Tariq, a spinner from Pakistan who frequently garners attention for his peculiar bowling movement, broke a new world record in the history of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). While playing for the Caribbean sister team of KKR, the Trinbago Knight Riders, Tariq, 31, wrote history on Tuesday.

The previous record of 15 straight innings with a wicket was shared by West Indian pace bowlers Dwayne Bravo (2016–2017) and Jerome Taylor (2015–2017). Now that Tariq is the only player at the top of this specific CPL record, he has gone one step further.

Tariq was re-signed for the same CPL team prior to the current season after helping the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) win the CPL 2025 championship. Tariq took 20 wickets in 10 games at an economy rate of 7.31, making him the second-highest wicket-taker in the CPL 2025. Last season, the only player with more wickets than him was Imran Tahir, who claimed 23 in 12 games.

Even though the TKR unit has been completely malfunctioning, the Pakistani spinner continued to perform admirably in the CPL 2026. In November 2025, Usman Tariq, an off-spinner from Pakistan, made his T20 International debut against South Africa. His ascent through franchise cricket has been swift, and his CPL exploits have garnered a lot of attention due to his continuous ability to take wickets under various circumstances and against a variety of opponents.

Beyond the CPL, Tariq had already established a remarkable streak in T20 cricket more broadly. He set a record for Pakistani bowlers in the T20 format by taking wickets in 23 straight innings as of February 2026. His CPL run of 16 straight innings is part of the bigger picture of a bowler who has been remarkably consistent in the shortest version of the game.
